So you are having a baby and ready to make all the difficult decisions… bottle or breast? Sleep train or co-sleep? Reveal or don’t reveal the sex?
While some couples do still choose to be surprised when their little one makes their grand entrance, technology makes it SO easy to find out the sex of your baby (and often hard to resist)! The big question has now become, what does one do with this information? Do you keep it to yourself or announce it to the WORLD in a fun and creative way?
When my sister found out she was pregnant with her third, she was over a thousand miles away from me and I desperately wanted to be part of “it all” as much as I could. Instead of her finding out and announcing the baby’s gender to the world, we arranged for her doctor’s office to only tell ME. It was then my job to make the BIG REVEAL to my sister and her family.
I scoured the internet and clocked some serious time on Pinterest. I googled, pinned and bookmarked literally hundreds of ideas. Etsy had some super cute options and so did Amazon! I am pretty crafty and LOVE to make easy tasks more difficult, so I decided to DIY it!
My brother is an avid golfer and I decided to incorporate golf into the reveal. I hollowed out a dozen raw eggs (who knew blowing out eggs back when I was a Brownie would be a skill I would use again?) and crushed light blue chalk (So. Much. Chalk.) How I actually got the chalk INTO the eggs is still a bit of a blur. I know it involved small pieces of paper formed into a funnel and a lot of vacuuming and mopping my kitchen afterward. I was pretty pleased with myself and my fragile little creations.
I shipped the eggs (heavily padded and protected like the future of the universe depended on them) and “patiently” waited for the video my sister promised to send the MINUTE they were done. I loved being part of the event and admit I laughed a little too much at my niece’s reaction to the cloud of blue that erupted when they all struck the “golf balls”
Gender reveal events are a personal choice. I was thrilled to be part of the excitement, but I also would have understood if they wanted to have a more private moment together. Whether a family decides to go “big” with a Gender Reveal party or keep the mystery going until the birth day – one thing is for sure, the joy of meeting that little one for the first time is unforgettable.
